On 16 January 2021, DMAIB was notified that the Danish flagged container ship MAERSK ESSEN had lost approx. 250 containers while the ship was en route from Xiamen, China to Los Angeles, USA. The containers were lost as a consequence of heavy rolling approx. 450 north of Hawaii, USA. The number of lost containers were later adjusted to 750.
